Vitiligo

What is Vitiligo?
Also known as Leucoderma (meaning white skin), Vitiligo is the decolouration of the human skin due to the loss of pigment on certain areas of the skin. This is observed in the form of dispersed white patches on the human skin. It is a chronic (long lasting) disease that does make the skin more sensitive to the sun light as well as other environmental factors.

Vitiligo is found to be in three patterns:

Focal:
The de-pigmented patches are restricted to a particular area only
Segmental:
The white patches occur on one side of the body only
Generalized:
The most commonly observed pattern where the de-pigmentation can be seen throughout the body almost symmetrically.

Other Symptoms

Greying of hair, eyelashes etc.
Sun sensitivity
Loss of colour inside the mouth
