Gynecomastia is a condition where males have unusually enlarged breasts, due to increased production of breast tissues.

All men have androgen and estrogen both the hormones that are male and female hormones. When there is the change in androgens and estrogens balance then it results in Gynecomastia.

Other causes of Gynecomastia

  • Chemotherapy for cancer
  • Marijuana use
  • Deficiency of testosterone
  • Radiation treatment for testicles (testosterone deficiency)
  • Chronic renal failure
  • Chronic liver disease
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Malnutrition
  • Hormone treatment for testicular cancers
  • Klinefelter's syndrome
  • Trauma
  • Infections
  • Hormones (androgens, anabolic steroids, estrogen agonists)

  • Cardiovascular drugs, such as captopril and digitoxin
  • Cancer chemotherapeutics for prostate cancer.

  • Physical examination
  • Past medical history
  • Mammogram in case of cancer suspicion
